What is traditonal Chinese medicine?

 

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been practiced in China for over five thousand years. Historically, it has played an important role in the prevention and treatment of diseased in China. What are the differences between Chinese medicine and Western medicine?

 

Chinese medicine believes that living beings are compounds of energies, emotions and spirit, but Western medicine approach the human being by the anatomy and biochemistry. It assumes that the human being is made up of small independent cells. Both medicines have their strengths and limitations in deal with diseases .According to Chinese medicine, over 90% of our diseases come from overwork, stress of modern life and emotions. It is good to prevent disease, cure disorders and keep healthy, it is effective for chronic problems, muscle-skeletal pains and stress-related illnesses, depression, the immunities deficiencies, various allergies. Is acupuncture safe?

 

Yes, and painless as well if performed by a qualified acupuncturist. The needles for each treatment are extremely fine and made of stainless steel, their length varies from half a few inches, (ALL NEEDLES ARE STERILIZED AND DISPOSABLE.) Most patients feel very minimum discomfort as the needles are inserted and some feel nothing at all. Back to Top

How many treatments are necessary?

 

The period and treatment and frequency depend on the individual and the disease. For acute problems such as lumbar sprain, torticollis, in most cases, the great improvement from the 1st treatment.  Chronic problems, degenerative conditions and complicated cases may require treatment sessions over a longer period of time. In general, this number varies (between five and twelve) and can be evaluated from the first consultation. Back to Top

 

How often do I need to receive acupuncture treatment?

 

In severe, acute cases, closely scheduled appointments are necessary, daily treatment are preferable. For chronic illnesses, treatments are less frequent and are provided, two times every week is highly recommended until the patients’ health is stabilized. You may receive one acupuncture treatment per week to reinforce the results achieved. The reasons are: If the interval between each treatment is too long, the treatment results that have already accumulated from previous treatments may be reduced. That means that the overall recovery time will be longer. Therefore, treatments that are given twice per week for two consecutive weeks are better than treatments received once per week during four weeks. And also, early intervention is very important in order to prevent further development of the disease.  Back to Top

 

How long will my first acupuncture session take?

 

There must be at least an hour for the first treatment session, while the following session will generally much shorter.

 

How do I prepare for my consultation and my acupuncture treatment?

 

  • Please bring the copy of your related medical records and the list of your medication, if possible

  •  Please do not brush your tongue

  • Please do not come in with empty stomach

  • Please do not eat too much prior to your arrival

  • Please avoid drinking alcohol and avoid taking sedatives four hours before treatment

  • Please plan at least one hour for your first visit

What can I expect during my first visit?

 

During your first visit, you will fill your confidential medical form (include your medical history), I will ask all related questions, take your pulse, examining your tongue, and evaluate your energy according to Chinese traditional medicine. I will find the initial cause of the symptom of the imbalance, also determine your Qi and blood level, as well as the pattern of the disharmonies of Yin and Yan in your body. An individual treatment plan will be determined for you, based on your age, gender, overall health condition, the current season and weather condition, and many other factors. I will also give you some suggestions about your diet, beneficial exercises and other health recommendations. You will receive your first treatment right after the consultation. Acupuncture can improve a woman’s chances of conception by regulating hormones, encouraging a balanced menstrual cycle, increasing the body’s basal temperature, thickening the lining of the uterus, and bringing on ovulation. When should I seek acupuncture treatment?

 

It is not necessary to wait until the disease appears to view. Periods of stress, changes, living conditions or season are appropriate times to receive preventive treatment. These will help to eliminate or reduce the imbalance various signals that organs email us. For IVF patients, acupuncture and herbs treatments before, during and after IVF treatments are necessary; For season allergies, preventive treatments should begin at least one month before the onset of allergy season; For  PMS, irregular menstruation, and cramps during menses, treatments should start one week before the patient’s next period. For general health maintenance and preventive care, acupuncture treatments are necessary from time to time, just like car tune-ups. Back to Top

 

Are there any treatments without needles?

 

Yes, in the case of adult patients for whom acupuncture is not suitable (afraid de needle, very sick, weak, nervous, etc.), and some children, we use Chinese massage Tuina, acupressure, cupping, moxibustion, Chinese herbs and other TCM methods to achieve the same clinical result. Back to Top
